A nostalgic attempt to recreate the good ol’ BBS feel on the World Wide Web
Cyber Punk City was originally a BBS that I ran in the mid 90s. For those of you who don’t remember or don’t know what a BBS is/was: A BBS was how us computer geeks had fun before the advent of the WWW. Simply put, a person would run some sort of BBS serving software on their home computer. Then other computers would call the BBS computer using a modem to connect. Usually the host computer (i.e., the BBS) would offer a variety of functions to interest users. Most BBSs had message boards, file sections, online multi-player games, articles to read, chat sessions, and much, much more.
The purpose of this site is, then, to attempt something of a recreation of the good ol’ BBS feel. Rather than specializing exclusively on a specific subject, as is the norm for the majority of today’s web pages, this site instead offers a plethora of interests with perhaps a strong emphasis on those items which might interest a cyber geek. So, if this site seems a little eclectic – good, that is just exactly what was intended.
